It’s Tuesday. Last year, a Tuesday
meant that I have to prepare myself to work 16 hours: 8 at the bank and 8 more
at the shipping depot. But now that I’ve eliminated Tuesdays at the shipping
depot, things are good. No, things are great. And I had no idea just how
profound the impact would be by removing 8 little hours. Explain? Okay…
On Sunday I’d work 12 hours at the
shipping depot (noon to midnight). Then I’d come home, barely get sleep, and
then come back to the bank job to work the morning shift (6:30am-2:30pm). I’d
get out of work and be very tired, too tired to do anything of substance. I’d
go home with the knowledge that I have to work 16 hours the next day, so I had
better get as much sleep as I can. So Monday is gone. Then came Tuesday, which
was a wash because I had to work both jobs. I’d come home a little after
midnight and get a little rest before having to go into the bank job’s morning
shift again. Once I leave the bank job’s Wednesday shift, I feel exactly as I
did on Monday, where I feel the need to catch up on sleep. Again, I’d go home
and pass out, and that is my Wednesday. The only weekday where I can get a good
night’s sleep and work only 8 hours the next day is Thursday, which I can only
enjoy to a limit. After all, Friday is looming and I have to get enough rest to
handle Friday’s shifts at both jobs. See how crazy that is? And not just physically, but mentally as well.
But with Tuesdays at the shipping depot
nixed, I can truly enjoy my weekdays. The moment Sunday is over at the shipping depot, I know I don’t
have to see that place again until Friday afternoon. Once I rest up on Monday, I
have three more days where I can relax, take care of stuff, file papers, or
just sit at home and do nothing. I can drive around and check out properties for sale that may not be listed on the MLS yet. Today, for example, I’m gonna go home after
work after work and make my food. With Property X now fully rented out, I can
really enjoy some time to myself. I’m gonna air fry some tater-tots, grill some
turkey burgers, and enjoy some good eatin’ while watching some Simpsons
episodes. After that I’m gonna take a nap, wake up, file some papers, check for new porn, and then
go back to sleep in anticipation for tomorrow. What a difference!
Losing the Tuesday’s eight hours hurts
financially, a monthly loss of around $300 before taxes (which comes out to a
little over $230 a month after taxes). But it’s well worth it. I don’t know how
I was able to work two full time jobs and still do a decent job maintaining my
properties. But after 4 and a half years, I can finally say that I no longer
work two full time jobs. The countdown to paycheck retirement has begun, and it
feels so good…
