April and May were bad months. I was eating out like crazy, and the only thing I'd buy for groceries were turkey burgers and juice. Then June came, which was the same month that Sam and I stopped talking. No more Sam also meant not having to go out and eat at restaurants all the time. It meant not going out period. By the time the end of June was near, I realized that I had spent no money on outside food! So I celebrated with three wonderful slices of pepperoni pizza ($7.61). And July continued the trend of eating at home more than outside.

Now that's not to say that I've been eating healthy. For example, remember that October 2015 Food Report where I failed to make a traditional NYC hotdog? Well I looked online and found the onion sauce that I needed, but it was $10. Then I found out that Walmart had it for 3 bucks. So I went there, looked in the hotdog section, and:

It was like... like finding gold. I picked up that can of red onion sauce and walked to the self checkout with a big smile on my face.

Once I got home, I immediately tried it out:

Tastes exactly like the ones in NYC. Hotdogs with sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard, and red onion sauce. My mouth is watering as I look at that picture.

The best part is how filling the hotdogs are. I could eat 10 of these things if I bought it from a NYC hotdog vendor. But at home, I can only finish about 4 and I'm done for the day. Very very tasty, but also very unhealthy. Each hotdog has at least 1000mg of sodium, and that's just the "meat". So even though I'm cooking at home a lot more, I still need to add good nutrition.

Being at home in the morning means making breakfast:

Eggs and bacon with hash browns. Best thing about making anything with bacon is that I don't need to add oil. The pork grease covered the pan and it gave the eggs that wonderful dirty flavor

Right now I've confined myself to egg sandwiches, but I'd like to try new stuff like whole wheat pancakes or... well that's pretty much all I can think of right now for breakfast variety.

Fitness

Ever since 2017 started, there have only been two consistently good habits I've had. The first is battle rap. The battles this year have been both plentiful and awesome, giving me a ton of entertainment and continuously quenching my thirst for lyrical destruction. The second has been the gym.

The gym is still one of my favorite places to go, and it really helps not having Sam around. Watching him do the bare minimum had a negative impact on me, as I like to go at it hard every rep. With UFC's "Face the Pain" blaring in my Bluetooth headset, I do max weight reps of machines:

Shoulder Press: 3 sets of 100 lbs (10 reps)
Bicep Curl: 3 sets of 185lbs (10 reps)
Chest Fly: 3 sets of 220lbs (10 reps)
Seated Row: 3 sets of 130lbs (15 reps)
Chest Press: 3 sets of 130lbs (10 reps)

Once the workout is over, I load up on proteins. Sometimes it's peanuts or protein chips, but my favorite is having a protein drink. And it doesn't stop at the gym.

On weekends at the bank job, I make sure to do 240 pushups (3 sets of 40 per day), 200 squats (5 sets of 20 per day), and 1,000 heel raises (5 sets of 100 per day). At home, I created an ab workout that allows me to stay in bed while still getting a massive abdominal burn. In one continuous set, I do 30 double leg lifts, 20 seconds of air bike, and then 10 leg scissors. My legs don't hit the ground for the entire set, and that increases the burn exponentially. 3 sets of that has given me a stronger core, and I've become much stronger overall. The other day, I was at Home Depot returning plywood for the vacant apartment. When the lady asked me to take it off the cart and put it down, I lifted 4 pieces of 4x8 7/16 over my head like it was nothing. I couldn't believe how strong I had become and it made me feel like the big swinging dick that I am.

August will be more of the same for weight lifting, and I'm looking forward to getting even stronger. I started this gym thing wanting to have Randy Orton's body, but I'd much rather be strong enough to kiss his ass. For food, I wanna add burritos and salmon to my lunch menu. I used to make that when I had a rice cooker, so I'll probably have to buy another one. I need to keep this streak going of spending more money on homemade food than outside food. I know that eating hotdogs and egg/bacon sandwiches isn't the healthiest, but getting used to homemade food is the true goal. It'll open up opportunities for better foods in the future.

P.S.: Fun at the gym? Homemade food? It feels good, and it's just another great consequence of no longer being around Sam. If I'd realized he had anything to do with my constant outside food purchases or my lack of workout drive, I would have ended our friendship much sooner.
