Nino
So the plan was to hang out with Nino from Tuesday night into Thursday morning, then go to deal with family Thanksgiving. At the last minute, his girlfriend Ria got sick and said I probably wouldn’t be able to stay over at their place. Nino got me a hotel room to stay instead, and everything was set. Once I arrived, however, Nino told me that he couldn’t hang out because Ria was too sick and he couldn’t leave her. So, for the next two days, I stayed in the hotel and hung out. No phone call. No texts. Not until Thursday when I was about to head back to Smalltown did I get a text from him saying that he’ll “talk to me tomorrow”. If it wasn't for watching Forensic Files on cable, that hotel would have been a complete waste of time.
Ria suffers from depression and likes to blame him for her moods when he does something she doesn’t like. She also turns him against all of his friends and family so that she has him all to herself. She has a lot of control over him, and he doesn’t seem to notice. She only gets “sick” whenever he wants to do something without her, and that’s kinda fucked up. I could give a shit about this entire situation, except that this is the guy I’m supposed to be handing my business over to when I’m dead. What if she decides he has to sell everything and influences him to go against the wishes in my will? Ugh! Weak ass dudes, man. They’re everywhere. Ria is changing him into an unreliable person, and I'm contemplating cutting ties with him before the end of this year. This time for good.
Brooklyn Mike
Once Thursday hit, I checked out of the hotel and hung out with Brooklyn Mike, who is living with a couple other family members after they abandoned their family home. We still went by the old place and I got to take some pictures of the legendary porch:
Once his aunt buys a new house, she will leave her old apartment to Mike. He’ll live in the middle of my favorite part of Flatbush for only $750 a month. That’s a pretty good deal, and it’ll give me a place to go whenever I decide to visit Brooklyn. Hopefully he’ll start living life and finally get laid.
Alan’s Thankgiving
I dropped Mike off after BBQ, then picked up my sister to go over to my dad Alan’s house. The backdrop to this event is that my dad has filed a restraining order against my mom, accusing her of breaking into his home while he was in the hospital. He had a bunch of church people over who had been helping him get better, and they were pretty nice. We helped him walk up and down the stairs and it was… it was kinda cool. Seeing the smile on his face as he made it from step to step reminded me of where I get my determination from. Anyway, I finally met the woman who has been the center of drama around his care, Matilda. She was decent enough, and gave me tips on how to make my own Jollof rice. There was no talk about lawsuits and break-ins. You see, I no longer care if the adults want to fight. I’m not going to pick sides because this childish nonsense will never end. Let them fight and have at each other until the bitter end… just make sure that Jollof rice tastes good.
Anita’s Thanksgiving
After Alan’s, we went over to my mom Anita’s place. Unlike last year, she didn’t invite anyone over to piss me off. She had just come back from Nigeria and was too tired to have an actual Thanksgiving dinner, which was fine with me. I only spent a half hour there before I had to leave to make it back to Smalltown in time for work at the bank job.
This was the first Thanksgiving in a long while that I actually had a decent time with family. Anyway, I hope all my future Thanksgivings with the family are this easy, with everyone clearly on their best behavior.
P.S.: After the whole Nino situation, I think I’ll be forced to transfer all my money and business to my brother Rex once I’m dead. I really wanted to keep it out of family hands but, if I have to choose a family member to do it, there’s really no one better than Rex.

| We went to the new BBQ that opened up at the Flatbush Junction. This was yellow rice with a beef brisket sandwich. I really have to learn how to make meats taste that good. |
